Child Safeguarding, STATEMENT

The Surabaya Intercultural School endorses the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, in which our host country, Indonesia, is a signatory.

Child abuse and neglect are concerns throughout the world. Child abuse and neglect are violations of human rights.

The Surabaya Intercultural School is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment in which students are allowed to grow and develop as individuals. Our staff has the opportunity to observe and interact with students. Our staff is also in a unique position to identify students who are in need of protection. The Surabaya Intercultural School staff has a professional and ethical obligation to identify students who are in need of help and to take steps to insure that the child and family receive services needed to help alleviate the situation that constitutes child abuse or neglect.

All staff employed at the Surabaya Intercultural School must report suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect whenever the staff member has reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered or is at significant risk of suffering abuse or neglect. Reporting and follow-up of all suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect will proceed with the administrative regulations to this policy. Additionally, cases of suspected child abuse or neglect may be reported to the appropriate employer, respective country of origin consulate, appropriate child protection agency in the country of origin, and/or local authorities.
