Festival of Nations: A Celebration of Unity in Diversity

This year’s Festival of Nations provided a wonderful opportunity for our entire community to come together and celebrate our school’s diversity.  Elementary classrooms showcased what they had been learning in their units of inquiry during the Elementary Learning Expo on Thursday, February 8.  Students made connections between their learning and this year’s FON theme, Unity in Diversity and reflected on what Unity in Diversity means.  Secondary students shared their learning through the Secondary Learning Expo on Friday, February 9.

FON Gala: Musical Marvels and Cultural Showcases

During the FON Gala on February 10, wonderful integrations between elementary teachers, Bahasa Indonesia, and Music specialist classes were showcased. EC 3 and EC 4 students stole the show and our hearts with their performance of Cublek-Cublek Suweng.

Kindergarten – Grade 2 students sang their hearts out with a medley of traditional Indonesian songs taking us on a tour of different islands in Indonesia.  Our Grades 3 – 5 students showed off their musical talents in their traditional instrumental performance as they played the angklung.  Mrs. Kim’s ASA students worked hard to prepare their performance, Imagine.

Secondary Students’ Cultural Harmony: Multilingual Melodies

Following a beautiful performance by our sister school, SMAN 11 Surabaya, our secondary students led off our student performances with a collaboration between the foreign language classes.  The students sang Heal the World in four languages, English, Bahasa Indonesia, French, and Mandarin.  The seniors showed their school spirit in a performance that showed a mix of traditional and contemporary culture.  To round out the evening’s performances, we had country performances from Korea, India, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Many thanks to all the students, teachers, and parents who gave of their time and talents to made our FON a success!
