SIS Summer Reading Challenge (Summer 2021)

A Message from Administration Alley: The Summer Reading Challenge - Beach

Extensive research has shown, summer reading strengthens a student’s academic skills. Reading helps retain information learned throughout the school year as well as allowing the child to obtain new knowledge and increase their critical thinking skills. As care-givers of our SIS community we should encourage and inspire our students to read for fun over the summer. Thus, we are rolling out the SIS Summer Reading Challenge for our Elementary and Middle School Students.

A Message from Administration Alley: The Summer Reading Challenge - Read

Students in Kindergarten to rising 8th graders will have an opportunity to sign up for the SIS Summer Reading Challenge. They will sign a contract stating what their reading goals for themselves will be, keep track of their reading progress on the provided Google Slides and in Fall of 2021 a celebration of reading will commence. The celebration, date and times of this special event will be determined as we learn more about our COVID restrictions.

We want our students to enjoy summer at the same time encouraging them to maintain/increase their literacy skills by providing them with an incentive to read books of their choice. If you are interested in supporting your child with this endeavor, please encourage them to sign up with their English teacher or homeroom teacher. If you have any questions or concerns please contact their teacher or myself at kariail@sis.sch.id.
