High SCHOOL (GRADE 9 - GRADE 12)
Research shows that students learn best when they are connected to the life of their school and to the adults who guide them.
The high school gives students a well-rounded liberal arts education based on U.S. standards that will prepare them for study in universities around the world and for lifelong learning after their formal education ends.
Advanced Placement Program
The Advanced Placement Program (AP) was created by the College Board with the goal of offering university level curricula to high school students. Although the program is based in the United States, it is recognized at universities throughout the world. Students who score well on their exams have a chance at earning university credit. They also have an edge when applying to the most competitive universities in the world. SIS currently offers 13 out of 38 courses. Each year we modify our course offerings to best fit student needs. Our courses cover subjects in the fields of math, science, foreign language, English, computer science, history, geography, art, psychology, and economics.
AP Capstone Diploma
The AP Capstone program consists of two courses – AP Seminar and AP Research – and is designed to provide students with the opportunity to direct their own learning while teachers give students the necessary skills to dive deep into their selected topic. Students who score well on their AP exams for these two classes, along with four other AP classes will earn the AP Capstone Diploma.
Electives
SIS offers classes in music, art and drama to help students build an appreciation for the arts. Our bands have regular performances and our art show is a highlight of the year. Students get the chance to perform on stage in our drama productions. We also have a physical education program for students to realize the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. Other courses we offer include those in our computer science department as well as speech and debate. Our Business Studies Department offers courses in accounting and business management. SIS currently offers French, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin in our World Languages Department.
Advisory
The advisory program in the secondary school is based on the research that says students will achieve more if they have a strong student-teacher connection. Secondary students meet weekly in their advisory classes and focus on the core principles of the program: to build a love of learning, community spirit, responsibility to self, and responsibility to others.
