Healthy Kids, Healthy School, Healthy Community

We have heard the phrase, “We are all in this together,” over and over. However, what does that really mean? There are many meanings to this phrase, but the one we will focus on is healthy kid, healthy school, and healthy community. By focusing on being healthy at home we will return to school with healthy kids and essentially a healthy community.

How do we promote and practice healthy choices during our current stay at home situation? There are some basic necessities, nutrition and fitness. According to the CDC Healthy Schools website, hunger and thirst is a big contributor to reduced focus in school and impact kids’ mental health. Having your kids help create a variety of healthy snacks of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and low sugar beverages allow for optimal nutrition, but will also give kids new skills and fun experiences.

Although families may be limited to a small garden or just staying within the house, there are different activities that can be done to allow for movement. Movement helps increase concentration and memory so kids need to move multiple times every day. Some suggestions could be dance parties, exercise videos on YouTube and/or TikTok. If your child has a gaming system, many times you can put on a movement game to add variety to their day.
