Empowering Back to School Night: Engaging Student Organizations with Alma Introduction

It’s hard to believe we are already finishing out our first full month of school! We hosted a successful Back to School Night for parents on August 22nd. This was an opportunity for parents to learn more about different departments and classes, as well as meet all the Secondary teachers and ask questions to ensure they stay informed about our course offerings and requirements. Students and parents mingled with teachers and received valuable information for the year.

Parents were also given an introductory training to Alma, our new student management software that was piloted earlier this month. Alma will make it much easier and simpler for parents to monitor their children’s grades and assignments and be able to communicate with teachers quickly and efficiently.

It has been a busy start to the year for student organizations. Both High School and Middle School Student Council (StuCo) had elections over the past couple of weeks. Voting was an exciting event and we welcomed both new and seasoned student leaders who will lead our student body to greatness this year. I am very proud of all those who volunteered to lead, serve and unite their peers for the greater good of our community. Welcome 2019-2020 StuCo Presidents, Vice Presidents, Treasurers, Secretaries and Class Representatives!

College Outreach: North Seattle College Representative Engages Student Organizations

We welcomed our first college admission representative of the year. North Seattle College from the state of Washington, U.S.A. visited SIS on August 29th and spoke with High School students about the educational value they offer in popular majors like business and engineering. This is a 2 year college where students can receive an Associate’s degree and be guaranteed admission to select prestigious 4 year colleges later on in their undergraduate careers.

We are offering SAT Preparation as an ASA for 11th and 12th graders during this first term of ASAs. Since the demand for this ASA exceeded the capacity we can offer, we have decided to tape all the sessions and make the videos available to all High School students who are interested, so they can start to prepare for this very important part of their college and university admissions process.

More information will be shared soon on how to access these videos. Next week we are looking forward to all our Middle School and High School students attending various Week Without Walls trips from September 9-13. Stay tuned for exciting pics to be shared from these invaluable experiences soon!
