A message from our ES Principal: Ms. Desfosses

On Thursday, June 10 at 12:00 p.m., I think the entire SIS community took a collective sigh as our year of online learning came to a close. Our Elementary school gathered for one last ES assembly and some very special goodbyes. After 9 wonderful years, I will make my way to Singapore and begin a new adventure. I would like to take a short moment to thank the parents, students, teachers, and staff at SIS for the support and kindness you have shown to me in the years that I have been a part of the SIS family.

I will treasure the memories that I have made and the times we have shared. As the world continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, I am confident that SIS will continue to grow and thrive as paramount international school in Surabaya.

Over the summer months, as information becomes available, please stay tuned for updates from Mr. Bishop about plans for the return to school in August.

A message from our SS Principal: Mrs. Woodhurst

What a year to be the new principal at SIS!  While I wish I could have spent time on campus with each and every student, I am so proud of the tremendous efforts of our students and staff to make the most of our online learning situation.  Despite the pandemic, our students chose to thrive.  I would like to extend a special thank you to our High School StuCo, Middle School StuCo, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.  Their hard work and talent made for a wonderful range of extra curricular events.  They were able to replicate many of our proud traditions virtually, continued to make a positive impact in our community as well as globally, and supported our students’ academics and mental wellness.  Well done!  It is an honor to work with you.

I am looking forward to the 2021/22 school year with a return to on campus learning.  What that looks like will be determined in July and shared by Mr. Josh Bishop, our incoming Head of School.  Please be sure to check your email for updates in July.

The last WAG of the year included a variety of video celebrations.  Please have a look if you have not already done so.  I will leave you with our Celebration of Secondary which highlights just a few of the many reasons I am so proud to be your principal!

I would like to close by thanking the SIS community for such a warm welcome.  I feel very fortunate to have joined such a talented staff who work very hard on behalf of our terrific students.  Have a safe and healthy summer!

A message from our AD: Dr. Santiago

Without a doubt, the Covid 19 pandemic has impacted the education system in ways that no one could have predicted. Teachers and administrators scrambled to find ways to continue teaching with the schools physically closed. We are fortunate to have the current technologies that make online learning possible. However, sports and many other similar activities can’t be simulated online so all organized sports activities were put on hold.

After-school activities had to evolve rather quickly to adapt to the current situation. Student organizations were relegated to Zoom meetings to meet and plan for their activities. Nevertheless, our student organizations continued to do meaningful work.
