Elementary students are joining the Hour of Code again this year! As a school, we have joined the Hour of Code for the past three years. This activity is a global event to promote Computer Science at schools. Students learn to code, as well as problem solve using activities provided in Code.org.  Students in Grade 1 to 5 will have time to code more on Monday and Tuesday, December 3 and 4.

As well as supporting computer science at SIS, our technology program in the Elementary School is integrated with the IB PYP program to support students’ learning. Students have been using technology in varied and meaningful ways to learn and understand the world around them. Our EC students explore and use technology to support their language skills, explore colors, and shapes. In Kindergarten, students utilize technology to learn more about the community and neighborhood. In Grade 1, students make use of the computer to type in a story about themselves. In Grade 2, students create videos to raise awareness about conserving water. In Grade 3, we use online resources to explore the properties of matter as well as the way matter changes. In Grade 4, students apply technology skills to learn about migration. In Grade 5, students conduct online research to study leaders of change in the world. With technology, the Fifth Graders are also able to make connections and collaborate with other students in different parts of the world for Global Read Aloud.
