UNIVERSITY PARENT MEETING WITH GUIDANCE COUNSELOR—OCTOBER 16, 2018 @ 8:15 AM-9:30 AM

On October 16, 2018 @ 8:15 AM-9:30 AM in the SIS library, the Guidance Counselor will hold a global university informational meeting for parents.  We will discuss application timelines and processes, university rankings vs subject rankings, SAT/SAT & Subject tests, and jobs of the future.  You will learn how you can support your university bound student and how the SIS Guidance Counselor will support you and your child through this chaotic application process.  Please bring your questions and prepare to receive a lot of information.

All parents in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend because you will know grade level appropriate activities you should be doing as a family for grades 6-12.  This meeting is strongly recommended for all grade 12 parents.  At the end of this meeting, all grade 12 parents will have the opportunity to schedule a Parent-Student-Guidance Counselor meeting to discuss your child’s application status and admission requirements.  There will be a question answer period and light refreshments served.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) PARENT WORKSHOP WITH GUIDANCE COUNSELOR–October 17, 2018 @ 8:15 AM-9:30 AM

On October 17, 2018 @ 8:15 AM-9:00 AM in the SIS library, the Guidance Counselor will provide a presentation on Advance Placement (AP) testing dates, deadlines, fees, and expectations.  This is a good opportunity to learn about the benefits of the AP program, how to plan with SAT subject tests, and how it will help students enroll in global universities.

Students should have enrolled in their AP class with a “Group Code” from the teacher, and through their Collegeboard account before November 1, 2018.  All students that register for the AP class will automatically be registered for the exam and charged the exam fees.  If a student is enrolled in an AP class and will not take the AP exam, then the student must submit the request to cancel their exam before November 1, 2018 and there will be no additional fees.

If the student informs the Guidance Counselor in writing after November 1, then there are exam fees and cancellation fees imposed.  If a student is not taking an AP class but is interested in taking the AP exam via self-study, then the student must register for the AP exam with the Guidance Counselor before November 1. This meeting is open to all parents of students in grades 9-12. There will be a question answer period and light refreshments served.
